Your Teacher
Iām Val, an herbalist, moon gardener, and owner of Woodspell Apothecary. I live in the North where winters last for half of the year. The challenge of cold, snow and darkness has led me to connecting even deeper with the land around me and the cosmic shifts that occur as the earth makes its way around the sun. These experiments and discoveries have allowed me to not only tolerate the edges of winter but to love them deeply, which I would love to share with you.
I grew up on Anishinaabe land in Michigan and have lived in almost every corner of the Great Lakes state over the years, including a beautiful few years in Colorado. I have had the honor of learning from many amazing teachers and graduated from the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. Perhaps my most influential teachers though are the plants themselves. They continue to share their lessons with me as I grow food and medicine in the forest. My goal as an herbalist is to integrate science with ancestral traditions and intuition.
